Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August
At this year's Vintage Rally& Classic Car Show, as part of the indoor display marking the 80th anniversary of RNAS Sparrowhawk, Hatston, Orkney Wireless Museum will be exhibiting a life-size replica of the wireless operator's position in an Avro Lancaster bomber. It has been built for the museum by volunteer custodian, Nicol Manson and is shown with the equipment used during World War Two. It can be filled with the sounds experienced on board the aircraft. Morse certificates will be awarded to visitors who can send their names in Morse code. Information panels tell you about the aircraft and remember Orcadians who, sadly, lost their lives while serving on this iconic bomber.
The Lancaster can be found in the Mart indoor display, Hatston, Kirkwall on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August.
Doors Open Day has been celebrating heritage and the built environment in Scotland since 1990. Orkney Wireless Museum will be taking part in Doors Open Days 2019 on Saturday 21st September from 10am until 4.30pm and on Sunday 22nd from 2.30pm until 4.30pm. Entry will be free. As well as enjoying our exhibits, visitors can learn about the building itself, which is an interesting part of Kirkwall's past. There will also be a free prize draw.
